"Dancers flow through ''Agathlon'' in a continuous stream whose impetuousness seems to come from something other than the dancers. They disperse now and then into wedges of ebbing bodies, then leave behind a dancer or two for brief, punctuating solos and duets... A small implosion will suddenly spurt a dancer into a cantilevering arabesque, for instance, but the effect is of a natural progression, with dancers traveling across the stage in real, untheatrical runs, tilting into gently opposing planes against an order of equilibrium set by Ralph Dorazio's perched green-rock sculpture at the side. And as ''Agathlon'' unfolds the costumes - one-piece bathing suits in patches of deep-hued natural colors -are gradually changed from dark tones to lemons and golds, suggesting the changes of light over a day." (Excerpt from 1981, New York Times article written by Jennifer Dunning)
